The story begins with Edmond Dantès, played by Jim Caviezel, as a promising young sailor who is falsely accused of treason by his supposed friends and sentenced to life in prison. After years of imprisonment, Dantès befriends an elderly inmate, Faria, who shares with him the location of a hidden treasure on Montecristo Island. Upon Faria's death, Dantès manages to escape and sets out to claim the treasure.
