AutoCAD has a built-in tool called (often part of the Express Tools). It allows you to use an image or a block as a hatch pattern.
A highly recommended freeware tool by ARKANCE (formerly CAD Studio) that extracts hatch pattern definitions from existing DWG drawings and saves them as standalone .PAT files. dwg to pat converter better
