Save file corruption can happen if files are mismatched or if the game overwrites them during a sync.

If you plan on downloading saves from the internet, turn off Steam Cloud Sync for Grim Dawn. Right-click Grim Dawn in Steam > Properties > General > Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for Grim Dawn = OFF. If you don’t do this, Steam will constantly overwrite your downloaded files with your old ones.
