Smallville Season 1 was finished in a native 1080p intermediate for the Blu-ray release, but the special effects—the CG tornadoes, the heat vision, the flying—were rendered in standard definition. When you force those early 2000s CGI shots to play at 1080p or 4K, they look like PlayStation 2 cutscenes. The wires become obvious. The green screen compositing falls apart.
